Michael Steele, Former Chair of the RNC, Condemns Trump’s Position on Race

Michael Steele, former Chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC) condemned the racial divisions caused by Pres. Donald Trump. He was a guest panelist on “Hardball” with Chris Matthews on MSNBC. Steele, over the past several months, has become a regular on MSNBC, a news network that is thought to be liberal, even though I would classify it as centrist in its position.

In his remarks, Michael Steele, about what happened at Charlottesville, VA, said that “Trump picked at the scab of racism until became a wound again”. Considering that Michael Steele still identifies himself as a member of the Republican Party, this is a pretty harsh statement, although it is true and one that I agree with 100%.

Michael Steele and most people who consider themselves to be moderate Republicans do not condone the racism of Donald Trump. Steele went on to say that Trump should be a uniting force in this country, instead of the voice of division that he has shown himself to be. Many moderate Republicans feel the same way, even though Michael Steele is one of the few who has the courage to speak out against a Republican president.

In some ways, I have to say that I find the attitude of Michael Steele refreshing. At one time, I didn’t really like or respect Michael Steele, primarily because he was not only a Republican, but I could not understand why any African-American would identify with the Republican Party, the party that has never held the best interests of African-Americans at heart, or in their actions. Even though I still don’t understand why an African-American, in this case, Michael Steele affiliates themselves with a party that has always seemingly been against them.

The only thing I can think of that might explain this is that the Democratic Party was at one time the political party that represented segregationists, like George Wallace and others like him. In that respect, I can understand it completely. It’s just that I prefer to look at what a party is doing now, not in the past.

Within the last year or so, while watching Michael Steele on MSNBC, mostly as a guest panelist, I have gained a great deal of respect for what he says and his position. I just wish there were more Republicans like him.

Leaked Congressional Analysis Shows GOP Bill Raises Taxes on Millions of Americans – Mother Jones

The GOP tax plan; Screwing Over the Working Class Once Again

The GOP tax plan, scheduled for a vote as early as this evening, will screw over the working class despite claims to the otherwise. Donald Trump and the rest of the GOP are hiding the fact that most of the benefits of the GOP tax plan will benefit the 1%, as usual. Why should we be surprised, especially at this point in our history?

A study by the Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) a governmental agency assigned to the task of analyzing tax bills and other legislation affecting taxes, revealed that 38% of American workers will not even get a tax break on the GOP tax plan. The Republican Party has worked overtime trying to use every accounting gimmick they can think of to deceive the American people into thinking that their tax plan will benefit the working class the most. In reality, the working class will get screwed over, as they usually do in these cases. This is sure especially given that the Republican Party has always been best friends to the wealthy while being enemies of the working class.

This really shows what a liar Donald Trump is when he claims that the GOP tax plan “will cost me a fortune”, especially since the majority of wealthy people won’t see a tax increase or may even benefit financially from the GOP tax plan. Any way you look at it, the GOP tax is a bad deal for working-class Americans.

If the GOP tax plan should pass through the Senate and House, the next step will probably be for the GOP to propose “entitlement reform” to make up for the huge deficit created by the GOP tax plan. This means that they will probably be going after Social Security, Medicare, SNAP, and other welfare programs as a way to balance a budget.

Working-class and poor Americans had better wake the hell up while we still have something left. If the GOP tax plan passes successfully, it will just be the start of a landslide that could bury all of us. As a socialist, I’m extremely angry that the working class seems to be asleep at the wheel once again. This thing must be stopped!

GOP Health Care Bill Failing, Hopefully

Senate Republicans will shelve their bill to replace Obamacare, dealing a major blow to President Donald Trump’s agenda.

GOP Health Care Bill Failing, Hopefully

Donald Trump, in a tweet today, may have doomed that GOP health care bill to failure. Hopefully, this draconian piece of legislation (if you can even call it that) will fail to be passed, sparing a large part of the American population from the hardship this bill will cause.

In his tweet, Donald Trump advocated a position that the GOP should just repeal Obama care (The Affordable Care Act) without passing any type of health care legislation. He seems to think that by taking away the health care of millions of citizens, the Democrats will magically “fall into line” and pass the Republican health care bill even though it is garbage. If you think this is true, he is a bigger fool than even I thought.

In other words, Trump is suggesting that denying health coverage to people who now depend on The Affordable Care Act for their basic health coverage, will be able to survive without any type of health care. In this way of thinking, Donald Trump shows himself to be a cold-blooded and selfish bastard. He is suggesting that the GOP should take away people’s health care as some type of “leverage” to shove the GOP health care bill down everyone’s throat.

Not once does he ever consider those people who are undergoing ongoing treatment (cancer treatment, AIDS-related drug therapy, or some other type of treatment that requires constant care) and the damage that could be done by an interruption, or cancellation, of their health coverage. Of course, this would require a president who was capable of analytic thinking; something that Donald Trump has shown himself to be incapable. He is hell-bent on repealing Obama care no matter the cost to the average American citizen.

Movement to the Left is the Democratic Party’s Only Hope of Survival

The results in Georgia show that the Trump resistance can show up to the polls, but centrism isn’t a strategy to win.

Movement to the Left is the Democratic Party’s Only Hope of Survival

If the Democratic Party hopes to prevail and become the primary party in power in this country, they need to move to the Left. Instead of clinging to the status quo, or “business as usual”, The Democratic Party should stop trying to pander to both the business community and the working class at the same time. This simply won’t work any longer.

I believe this is a major reason that most people identify with the Democrats have a tendency to stay away from the polls and not vote. Even though they may not consider the Republican Party as the party that best represents their interests, they also don’t consider the Democratic Party to represent them either. As a result, most people who might vote Democratic, don’t bother voting at all; something that is hurting this entire country. The primary reason the Republican party is the party in power is that Republicans usually don’t just sit out an election. They go out and vote.

Many ideas which were once considered to be too progressive or even as radical, are now considered as mainstream, centrist ideas. Ideas such as single-payer healthcare, raising the minimum wage, and concentrating on repairing this country’s infrastructure, are now embraced by most Americans as being centrist or middle of the road. The Democratic Party is making a huge mistake by not using the change in people’s attitudes towards once radical ideas, to further not only their interests as a party but the betterment of the nation.

As long as the Democratic Party insists on trying to be all things to all people, it will only continue to decline in both popularity and power. If they are truly the party of the working class, as they have always tried to represent themselves, they badly need to start proving it. The Democratic Party needs to change his entire strategy to survive in the face of the increasing power of the GOP.

The Democratic Party needs to take a firm stand in favor of working-class Americans and start adopting bolder ideas. If they don’t, people will have no other choice but to resort to drastic means to protect themselves from the atrocities of the Republican Party, the latest being the Republican Health Care Bill which will devastate the health and well-being of millions of American citizens.

Even This Conservative Concedes That Single-Payer Health Care is Coming

Even This Conservative Concedes That Single-Payer Health Care Is Coming

Single-payer health care Conservative columnist, George Will, concedes that single-payer health care is going to happen, probably even under Donald Trump.  He says it will happen, despite the current state of denial of Trump and his followers, mostly because of an inconvenient truth that no one in the GOP seems willing to concede.

This inconvenient truth is the fact that if the GOP succeeds in repealing The Affordable Health Care Act (a.k.a. Obamacare), it will probably hurt Trump supporters the most.  If the Republicans new health care plan is implemented, an estimated 24 million Americans will be left without any type of health care coverage.  This fact is showing itself to be extremely unpopular and unacceptable to most supporters of President Donald Trump, and others in the GOP who are pushing for the repeal of Obamacare.

Single-payer health care is the next logical step in the evolution of health care in the United States.  The primary people who oppose it are those people who don’t understand it, or how it works.  Obamacare, according to George Will, was intended to be just a preliminary step before implementing a single-payer system.  Even Donald Trump says that a single-payer system is okay for Scotland.  If so, why wouldn’t it work here?  The answer is, it would work here, and quite well.Single-payer health care

The primary reason that George Will says whatever plan the GOP is trying to push will fail, and a single-payer system will put into effect is because the Republican health care plan (whatever that is) will hurt people who voted for Donald Trump more than it will anyone else.

Even though I really dislike George Will, and almost everything he stands for, I will freely concede that he makes a lot of sense, as does a single-payer health care system.

Is the GOP Ever Going to Wake up about Climate Change?

Source: Congressman leaves stage to a chorus of boos after saying the jury is still out on climate change

Is the GOP Ever Going to Wake up About Climate Change?

When is the GOP ever going to wake up about climate change and realize that it poses a huge threat to our civilization?  The answer is; they probably won’t!  Since the GOP has always been a pro-business advocate party (a.k.a. mouthpiece), and since they worship the “bottom line, “as though it were God, they probably won’t.  Not until the GOP has been replaced by a more progressive political party, that realizes the danger of climate change instead of denying it, things will probably remain the same.  Our planet will continue to wither and die.

Representative Andy Biggs (R-AZ) was booed off the stage by his constituents at a town hall meeting when he made the statement that the scientific community is split about whether or not climate change is real or not.  Since most people have come to the conclusion that climate change is real, even among his conservative constituents, Biggs’statement went over about as well as a pregnant pole-vaulter.

Since most of these people are probably conservatives who voted for Biggs, I take it as a good sign that people booed him off the stage.  Who knows, maybe the conservatives are even starting to wake up to the dangers of climate change to the planet and the population of it.  Whenever conservatives start agreeing with liberals/progressives, is always a good sign of progress, albeit small.

What makes this statement by Representative Biggs is the fact that he is a member of the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee.  If this is the type of person that is allowed to sit on such an important committee, we still have a long way to go in combating climate change.  First, we need to combat our own House of Representatives.

Town Hall Meetings: Direct Democracy At Its Best

Town hall meetings on the definition of direct democracy because they allow people to express their political opinion, without repercussions from other people.

Town Hall Meetings, Direct Democracy At Its Best

Town hall meetings are the definition of direct democracy because they allow people to express their political opinion, without repercussions from other people.  Town hall meetings have got a lot of attention in the media lately because it has shown that many Americans disagree with the current policies of the GOP.

Having their origin in colonial New England, town hall meetings are a pure form of direct American democracy.  That is what makes us unique that people are currently showing in large numbers to express their differences from what is now happening in this country.

Highlighted in these town hall meetings is healthcare reform; something that the GOP fails to recognize as they push for the repeal of the Affordable Care Act (a.k.a. Obama care).  Many people who have had insufficient, or no healthcare for years, but were finally given help with their medical bills.  They are angry and afraid of the prospect of losing their health care and being put back into the same vulnerable position they were in before.

Anger and indignation is one aspect of this entire situation make the idea ridiculous that some of the protesters at these meetings are paid, professionals.  Just the idea of professional paid protesters co-opting these town hall meetings for their purpose is ludicrous, and conservative news outlets know it.  Their cynicism and closemindedness cause them to underplays a bad situation that people are afraid of being forced into; having their healthcare taken away by legislators who they elected to protect their best interest.

Spreading the lie that paid protesters are driving that dissent and anger displayed at town hall meetings does a tremendous disservice to these people.  No professional paid protesters are involved in this exercise in direct democracy.  These people are only looking out for the own interests, and interests of their families.  No one is paying them.

By spreading this lie, the conservative news media is insulting the one example of direct democracy that still exists in this country.  Not to mention, it offends these people who devote their time to attending these town hall meetings and expressing their opinion, hoping that the GOP will listen to them.

I hope these GOP legislators are smart enough to hear them.  If they don’t, many of them risk losing their congressional seats.  These people may have elected them, but these legislators should never forget that the same people can also vote against them when they are up for reelection.  Hopefully, people will be smart enough to realize that they deserve better representation in Congress than what they are getting.
