Will White Supremacy In the US Ever Be Dealt with Effectively?

White supremacyThe problem of white supremacy will never be dealt with effectively in the US as long as people choose to stay in the state of denial that it still exists. Until people in this country acknowledge that white supremacy is alive and well in America, and we all take on the subject of racism, not much will change. In fact, white supremacy will probably increase to the point where it will create violent instability in this country. In most ways this would be a bad thing to happen, although I can actually see where this type of action may be necessary. Even though I embrace principles of nonviolence and pacifism, I can honestly admit that some type of “cleansing process” may be necessary.

By the term “cleansing process” I simply mean that it may be necessary for those of us on the Left to meet force with force, especially since most of the white supremacist organizations I’ve seen always seem to be well armed. I am suggesting that it may be necessary for those of us on the Left, to also be well armed and ready to use whatever means necessary to stop his ugliness known as “white supremacy” to end, or least be stifled to the point where it is no longer dangerous.

After the incident in Charlottesville, VA, we need to start considering the question, how does white supremacy affect society? Even though there have been other incidents of white supremacist violence, the incident in Charlottesville seems to bring the entire issue to a head. I, and I suspect other people, have come to the conclusion that every white supremacist group needs to be dealt with effectively. By effectively, I mean it’s such a way that it ceases to be a driving factor in today’s society, as it now seems. I think most of agree with we ask ourselves the question, “is white supremacy on the rise? The answer would seem to be yes definitely.

Even though I firmly believe in the U.S. Constitution and principles of freedom of speech, there comes a point when this freedom of speech should be controlled, especially if it leads to violence, as it did in Charlottesville. I’m not proposing we amend the U.S. Constitution or alter the clause dealing with “freedom of speech”, mostly because that would betray the very core principles upon which this document is based. I am suggesting that when this freedom of speech leads to violence, things have been allowed to go too far.

Like I said before, those of us on the Left and even those who consider themselves moderates, should be ready to meet force with force because the white supremacist have always kept violence as an open option for them to use when they see fit. Maybe it’s time we on the Left started thinking the same way. If they want blood, we on the Left should be ready to give it to them in full measure.

A Small Part of the Legacy of President Obama

A Small Part of the Legacy of President Obama

president obamaPresident Obama was celebrated by the left because he was able to bail us out of the horrible financial situation that GW Bush left us in. President Obama was able to bring about one of the biggest economic recoveries in this country’s history. His reforms on Wall Street and the entire banking system could have been revolutionary if they had ever been carried out properly. Unfortunately, they were not because the right kept spreading lies about how his proposed reforms would wreck our economy, despite the fact that he pulled the automobile industry out of a financial disaster by loaning them federal money in what amounted to a bailout. This bailout of the automobile industry saved it from self-destruction and guaranteed it would survive. It, in itself, is proof that President Obama was responsible for a very large economic recovery. He was willing to take a gamble that federal loans to the automobile industry would eventually pay off, which they did. The automobile industry paid back these loans within a couple of years. When have Wall Street bankers ever been able to say the same thing?

When have Wall Street bankers ever been able to say the same thing?

Also, he was able to lower the unemployment rate much compared to his predecessor who only helped create the situation of high unemployment. Under President Obama, people started finding more jobs and working more. Granted, many of these jobs were substandard ones that paid substandard wages, but nonetheless, they were still jobs. Perhaps if the big businessmen that run this country would not have shipped all the good jobs overseas, things would have been different. However, President Obama was not responsible for this shipment of jobs overseas.

Another thing that President Obama is responsible for is extricating us from a costly and unjust war in Iraq. This war was not only costly in the amount of money that was spent on it, but more importantly, the cost in human lives. Over 4000 American GIs were killed in this ugly atrocity, created by President George W. Bush. An estimated 300,000 to 400,000 Iraqis were killed in this horrible war. For what reason were all these people killed?

The answer is, absolutely nothing. Present GW Bush accomplished absolutely nothing with his war on Iraq, but to create the current level of instability in the entire Middle East. This entire region remains unstable to this very day. There is very little that President Obama could do about the situation other than to do as much as he could to insulate the United States from it and protect this country from the terrorists created by it. Expecting him to solve it, would be asking a miracle.

The unfortunate thing is that President Obama continued the violence with his drone stop strikes on supposed “terrorists”, even though there was often times very little if any, evidence that these people on the ground were actually terrorists.  He is also responsible for starting up many “secret bases” from which our military work.  President Obama is somewhat guilty of maintaining the quest for an “American Empire”.Will this country never stop his quest for “Manifest Destiny”?  This type of mentality should have disappeared along with Theodore Roosevelt, but unfortunately, President Obama was guilty of playing into it.

Most of us on the left consider Obama to be mostly moderate and considered him to be a liberal only on occasion. However, we still celebrate the fact that a person of color can advance themselves to a position where they are able to hold the highest office in the land. Most of us on the left celebrate the fact that Obama symbolizes that white people of European descent no longer have a stranglehold on who controls this country. Obama’s symbolizes an end to the Eurocentrism that has always dominated the United States. There is nothing that scares wealthy old white man of European descent more than the thought that a person of color could actually be legitimately put in a position of power. Power is something that these people of Eurocentric values wish for more than anything, just as long as it remains in their hands.

Our current president or as many of us like to call him “the great pretender”, Donald Trump is a perfect example of this racist Eurocentric mentality.

Donald Trump In His First Big Speech: Same Old Crap, Different Wrapper

In his first big speech to Congress, Donald Trump gave the same speech that he gave at the CPAC convention last week. The main thing that was different was the tone of the speech. Donald Trump was less abrasive last night before Congress that he was while speaking before his base. There was only one area where I could see that last night speech by Donald Trump was slightly different. Many other analysts agree with me, although I in no way call myself an analyst. I am just a disabled citizen trying to have a life.

At one point during last night speech, Donald Trump alluded to possibly allowing some illegal immigrants to stay in this country, by working out some agreement with members of the Democratic Party. However, since I find that cynicism is the best way to deal with everything out of the mouth of Donald Trump, I think he is probably us patronizing by even alluding to the possibility of an immigration bill. He still said last night that he intends to build a wall between the United States and Mexico. So much for that deal!

Even though the tone of Donald Trump was softer and less abrasive last night, he was still handing us the same old crap in a different wrapper. No one with any sense, or who has watched Donald Trump closely, will believe a word out of his mouth. He has shown himself to be such a pathological liar that he cannot be trusted.

Senator Jeff Sessions Unfit to Be US Attorney General

One of the most controversial nominations made by President-elect Donald Trump is his nomination of Jeff Sessions to be US Attorney General.  Senator Sessions has nothing in his record that shows him as having what it takes to be head of the Justice Department of the United States.  To the contrary, there are a number of reasons why Jeff Sessions has shown himself to be unfit to be head of the Department of Justice.

The US Attorney General is supposed to be unbiased and able to make their decisions about a variety of matters including enforcing civil rights laws.  Senator Sessions has consistently been opposed to voting rights laws.  Last year, he voted to gut sections of the Civil Rights Law of 1965 that dealt primarily with voting rights.

If he were to become US Attorney General, could he be counted on to enforce laws dealing with voting discrimination?  I sincerely doubt it!  His voting record shows him to be consistently against voting rights for people of color.

Another controversial position taken by Senator Sessions are allegations that he has used racial slurs in the past, and some people consider him to be a racist.  His alleged support of the Ku Klux Klan and other white supremacists has caused him to be imposed by the NAACP.  They recently staged a sit-in at his office in protest, where several of them were arrested.  Jeff Sessions Is also opposed by the U.S. Senate Black Caucus.  Since many of the cases handled by the US Attorney General are cases of racial discrimination, Jeff Sessions cannot be trusted to be unbiased, as he is supposed to be.

He has also classified the NAACP as being “un-American” and “communist-inspired.”  Can someone with this type of antiquated mentality which smacks of McCarthyism really be trusted to cancel make sure that every American citizen is granted the justice they deserve?

Donald Trump At His Best

Source: This is an actual Trump sentence.

Donald Trump at his best

Look, having nuclear—my uncle was a great professor and scientist  and engineer, Dr. John Trump at MIT; good genes, very good genes, OK, very smart, the Wharton School of Finance, very good, very smart—you know, if you’re a conservative Republican, if I were a liberal, if, like, OK, if I ran as a liberal Democrat, they would say I’m one of the smartest people anywhere in the world—it’s true!—but when you’re a conservative Republican they try—oh, do they do a number—that’s why I always start off: Went to Wharton, was a good student, went there, went there, did this, built a fortune—you know I have to give my like credentials all the time, because we’re a little disadvantaged—but you look at the nuclear deal, the thing that really bothers me—it would have been so easy, and it’s not as important as these lives are (nuclear is powerful; my uncle explained that to me many, many years ago, the power and that was 35 years ago; he would explain the power of what’s going to happen and he was right—who would have thought?), but when you look at what’s going on with the four prisoners—now it used to be three, now it’s four—but when it was three and even now, I would have said it’s all in the messenger; fellas, and it is fellas because, you know, they don’t, they haven’t figured that the women are smarter right now than the men, so, you know, it’s gonna take them about another 150 years—but the Persians are great negotiators, the Iranians  are great negotiators, so, and they, they just killed, they just killed us.

I have read some nonsensical, unintelligible bullshit in my life, but this takes the cake. Is this the person that far too many people want to run the United States? Someone who is as bad as Donald Trump is at composing a sentence should not have the power or authority to order a nuclear strike. Can we trust the nuclear codes that make this possible?

As I read this statement from a speech that Donald Trump made over a year ago, I could not believe that this guy made it through college. Donald Trump touts himself as a great businessman but what comes out of his mouth makes him look like a total idiot. Do we want to put the security of the United States in his hands?

Donald Trump also touts himself as a “rags to riches” person who has pulled himself up by the bootstraps and became a successful businessman who is worth billions of dollars. What a bunch of bullshit that is!

Even though he likes to make himself look like a character out of a Horatio Alger short story, nothing could be farther from the truth. If Donald Trump had not inherited about 200 million “rags” from his late father, he would not have the sense to be able to mow someone’s lawn, let alone lead this nation as its president.

Forever Forward – Statement by Bernie Sanders

Forever forward - Bernie Sanders 2016

I am writing you today to express my deep pride in the movement – the political revolution – you and I have created together over the last 15 months. When we began this historic campaign, we were considered fringe players by the political, economic and media establishment. Well, we proved them wrong.

We showed that the American people support a bold, progressive agenda that takes on the billionaire class, that fights for racial, social, economic and environmental justice and that seeks to create a government that works for all of us and not just the big campaign donors.

We mobilized over 13 million voters across the country. We won 23 Democratic primary and caucus contests. We had literally hundreds of thousands of volunteers across the country. And we showed – in a way that can change politics in America forever – that you can run a competitive national grassroots campaign without begging millionaires and billionaires for campaign contributions.

Most importantly, we elevated the critical issues facing our country – issues the establishment has pushed under the rug for too long. We focused attention on the grotesque level of income and wealth inequality in this country and the importance of breaking up the large banks who brought our economy to the brink of collapse. We exposed our horrendous trade policies, our broken criminal justice system, and our people’s lack of access to affordable health care and higher education. We fought aggressively to address the crisis of climate change, the need for real comprehensive immigration reform, the importance of developing a foreign policy that values diplomacy over war, and so much more.

We have shown throughout this election that these are issues that are important to voters and that progressive solutions energize people in the fight for real change. What we have accomplished so far is historic – but our work is far from over.

This movement of ours – this political revolution – must continue. We cannot let all of the momentum we have achieved in the fight to transform America be lost. We will never stop fighting for what is right.

It is true that in terms of winning the Democratic nomination, we did come up short. But this election was never about me or any candidate. It was about the powerful coming together of millions of people to take their country back from the billionaire class. That was the strength of our campaign and it will be the strength of our movement going forward in the months and years ahead.

In the coming weeks, I will be announcing the creation of successor organizations to carry on the struggle that we have been a part of these past 15 months. I hope you will continue to be involved in fighting to transform America. Our goal will be to advance the progressive agenda that we believe in and to elect like-minded candidates at the federal, state and local levels who are committed to accomplishing our goals.

In terms of the presidential election this November, there is no doubt that the election of Donald Trump as president would be a devastating blow to all that we are fighting for. His openly bigoted and pro-billionaire campaign could precipitate the same decades-long rightward shift in American politics that happened after the election of Ronald Reagan in 1980. That rightward shift after Reagan’s election infected not just politics as a whole but led to the ascendancy of the corporatist wing of the Democratic Party – an era from which we are still recovering.

I cannot in good conscience let that happen.

To have all of the work we have done in elevating our progressive ideals be dashed away by a complete Republican takeover of Washington – a takeover headed by a candidate that demonizes Latinos, Muslims, women, African Americans, veterans, and others – would be unthinkable.

Today, I endorsed Hillary Clinton to be our next president. I know that some of you will be disappointed with that decision. But I believe that, at this moment, our country, our values, and our common vision for a transformed America, are best served by the defeat of Donald Trump and the election of Hillary Clinton.

You should know that in the weeks since the last primary, both campaigns have worked together in good faith to bridge some of the policy issues that divided us during the election. Did we come to agreement on everything? Of course not. But we made important steps forward.

Hillary Clinton released a debt free college plan that we developed together which now includes free tuition at public colleges and universities for working families. This was a major part of our campaign’s agenda and a proposal that, if enacted into law, would revolutionize higher education in this country.

Secretary Clinton has also publicly committed to massive investments in health care for communities across this country that will increase primary care, including mental health care, dental care, and low-cost prescription drug access for an additional 25 million people. Importantly, she has also endorsed the enactment of a so-called public option to allow everyone in this country to participate in a public insurance program. This idea was killed by the insurance industry during consideration of President Obama’s health care program.

During the Democratic platform proceedings in St. Louis and Orlando, we were victorious in including amendments to make it a clear priority of the Democratic Party to fight for a $15 an hour federal minimum wage, expand Social Security, abolish the death penalty, put a price on carbon, establish a path toward the legalization of marijuana, enact major criminal justice reforms, pass comprehensive immigration reform, end for-profit prisons and detention facilities, break up too-big-to-fail banks and create a 21st century Glass-Steagall Act, close loopholes that allow big companies to avoid taxes by stashing their cash in offshore tax havens and use that revenue to rebuild America, approve the most expansive agenda ever for protecting Native American rights and so much more.

All of these progressive policies were at the heart of our campaign. The truth is our movement is responsible for the most progressive Democratic platform in the history of our country. All of that is the direct result of the work that our members of the platform committee did in the meetings and that you have been doing over the last 15 months.

But none of these initiatives will happen if we do not elect a Democratic president in November. None! In fact, we will go backward. We must elect the Democratic nominee in November and progressive Democrats up and down the ballot so that we ensure that these policy commitments can advance.

It is extremely important that we keep our movement together, that we hold public officials accountable and that we elect progressive candidates to office at the federal, state, and local level who will stand with us.

As part of that effort, we still have a tremendous amount of work left to do in the Democratic Rules Committee that will be meeting in the coming weeks. We have to enact the kinds of reforms to the Democratic Party and to the electoral process that will provide us the tools to elect progressive candidates, to allow new voices and new energy into the Party, and to break up the excessive power that the economic and political elites in the Party currently have. As with our fights on the platform committee, that will only be possible if we stand together.

You should know that I intend to be actively campaigning throughout this election season to elect candidates who will stand by our agenda. I hope to see many of you at events from coast to coast.

In conclusion, I again want to express my pride in what we have accomplished together over the last year. But so much more must be done to make our vision a reality. Now more than ever our country needs our movement – our political revolution. As you have throughout this historic campaign, I ask for your ongoing support as we continue through the fall and beyond.

On a personal note, I cannot say with words how appreciative Jane and I are of the kindness, dedication and love we experienced from so many people across the country. We are deeply touched by it and will never, ever forget it.

Please let me know that you will stand with me to defeat Donald Trump, and to elect candidates who will stand by our agenda as part of the future of our political revolution. Add your name now.

Forever committed, forever fighting, forever forward,

Bernie Sanders

Donald Trump Inspired Racism, “Keep America White”

Source: Trump-inspired Tennessee congressional candidate erects ‘Make America White Again’ billboard

Donald Trump Inspired Racism, “Keep America White”

A racist in the state of Tennessee named Rick Tyler, who is running for Congress put up a racist billboard which offended many people, including citizens of Tennessee. The message on the billboard, “Make America White Again” is inspired by the campaign slogan that Donald Trump, that says, “Make America Great Again”.

His fellow residents in the third congressional district in Tennessee, are so outraged that they are calling for a boycott of his business, the Whitewater Grill in Ocoee, TN. Even though the billboard was taken down within a few hours, after local people started protesting in large numbers, the racist message had already gone out to enough people to cause quite a backlash. Personally, I hope that people stick with their boycott and drive his business into the ground. He deserves it!

A local TV station, ABC 9 confirms that Rick Tyler’s racist message was inspired by Donald Trump after they had visited his website and seen the following message on his website,

“For these reasons we are confident that a widespread and creative billboard advertising game plan could go a long way toward making the Rick Tyler For Congress candidacy both viable and a force to be reckoned with. Clearly we are in uncharted waters, in that there has never been a candidacy like this in modern political history. Of great significance, as well, is the reality of the Trump phenomenon and the manner in which he has loosened up the overall spectrum of political discourse.”

This ugly incident, even though it may seem random, addresses an issue that I have suspected for quite a long time, mostly after Donald Trump started gaining in popularity when he became a candidate for president of the United States. Donald Trump has shown himself to be a racist on numerous occasions, and I actually do believe that his racist message has a much deeper meaning. That meaning is, keep America’s wealth and resources under the control of rich white men of European descent.

This thinly veiled message of control over the wealth and resources by rich white men of European descent is one reason that Donald Trump, and others who think like him, have attacked President Obama for the last eight years. Simply put, they can’t stand the idea that this country’s highest office has been possessed by an African-American male. Donald Trump has been one of the harshest critics of President Obama through his “birther” movement.

They also cannot stand the reality that the United States has for many years become a diverse culture, with people of every race, creed, or religion claiming their fair share of what this country has to offer its citizens. These racists, like Donald Trump, are desperately trying to maintain this country’s old status quo of white rule.
