Let’s Talk about Impeachment Already!

Finally, Congress is talking about beginning impeachment proceedings against Donald Trump.  Some of the people talking about this include Republicans.

In some weird way, I almost feel sorry for the Republicans, but I soon realized that they are responsible for their own undoing.  They should have brought this idiot under some type of control before talk about impeachment proceedings were necessary.  When Donald Trump was a candidate, the GOP chose to look the other way when he was being a racist jackass and attacking everything (and everybody) insight.  But, they refused to control this loudmouth until somebody started talking about impeachment.  Now they are scrambling to distance themselves from “their” president like rats, leaving a sinking ship.  They deserve everything they get.  They did the same thing back during the Watergate scandal.

The Republicans deserve everything they get.  They did the same thing back during the Watergate scandal.  Back then, they chose to allow Richard Nixon to do whatever he wanted until the damage was done, and he was nearly impeached.  I guess it’s true that some people never learn.  A Republican president came close to facing impeachment was before, and the Republican Party chose, to their regret, bury their heads in the sand like frightened ostriches.

By blindly following Donald Trump, no matter how toxic they may have secretly thought his rhetoric was, borders on the definition of insanity.  They say that insanity is doing the same thing repeatedly, hoping for a different result.  Is the Republican Party insane?  One wonders!

History is repeating itself.  Once again, a Republican president is facing impeachment, and the Republicans are dumb enough to believe that the American people will forget about it and re-elect some of these dumb asses next year, during the midterm elections.  Good luck with that!

Jeff Sessions Insists on Digging a Deeper Hole

Jeff Sessions is quickly proving himself to be even more unfit to be Attorney General than origin will not ally thought by most people.  In a previous article wrote that Jeff Sessions was unfit to be Attorney General based on his record of a bad record on racial issues and bias.  At the, I had no idea how deep the problem went.

Now it has been brought to light that Jeff Sessions lied to the Senate committee that was conducting the hearing into his confirmation.  One question in particular that Jeff Sessions lied about was a question asked by Senator Al Franken, of Minnesota.  When Senator Franken asked Sessions about whether he had communications with the Russians, Jeff Sessions lied and said that he had not.  It’s hard for me to believe that he was stupid enough to think he could get away with it and that he wasn’t under the microscope by this committee.

What is even more astounding is that Jeff Sessions now claims that he did not lie to Senator Franken, but that he misunderstood the question.  Does he, a well seasoned and supposedly gifted lawyer, think that the American people are dumb enough to believe that he misunderstood the question? There is no possible way that he misunderstood Senator Franken

There is no possible way that he misunderstood Senator Franken or any other member of that committee.  If what Jeff Sessions says is true, he may as well resign because he is too stupid to be Attorney General of the United States.  There is no way he is competent, or trustworthy, enough to safeguard the civil rights of people of color, gays, or anyone else.

The best thing that Jeff Sessions can do is to resign his new position, go back to Alabama, and disappear into the swamp from which he came.

Donald Trump In His First Big Speech: Same Old Crap, Different Wrapper

Donald Trump In His First Big Speech: Same Old Crap, Different Wrapper

In his first big speech to Congress, Donald Trump gave the same speech that he gave at the CPAC convention last week. The main thing that was different was the tone of the speech. Donald Trump was less abrasive last night before Congress that he was while speaking before his base. There was only one area where I could see that last night speech by Donald Trump was slightly different. Many other analysts agree with me, although I in no way call myself an analyst. I am just a disabled citizen trying to have a life.

At one point during last night speech, Donald Trump alluded to possibly allowing some illegal immigrants to stay in this country, by working out some agreement with members of the Democratic Party. However, since I find that cynicism is the best way to deal with everything out of the mouth of Donald Trump, I think he is probably us patronizing by even alluding to the possibility of an immigration bill. He still said last night that he intends to build a wall between the United States and Mexico. So much for that deal!

Even though the tone of Donald Trump was softer and less abrasive last night, he was still handing us the same old crap in a different wrapper. No one with any sense, or who has watched Donald Trump closely, will believe a word out of his mouth. He has shown himself to be such a pathological liar that he cannot be trusted.

Voter Stupidity Got Us Where We Are

Voters Stupidity Got Us Where We Are

These people are a perfect example of the voter stupidity that got Donald Trump elected president of the United States. Of course, in my lifetime I’ve had the unfortunate experience of watching voter stupidity getting many unqualified and unsuitable people elected to public office.

When I was growing up in Pennsylvania, I saw many examples of voter stupidity. The part of Pennsylvania I come from is Northwestern Pennsylvania, and many of the electorates were dairy farmers. An example of the voter stupidity that I saw was among these people. Every election, they just trudged into the polling place and cast a straight Republican ticket. If you ask them why they were Republican, they would just tell you “well, my father was a Republican, and before him, my grandfather was a Republican. If it is good enough for them, it’s good enough for me”.

As I grew older, this type of thinking struck me as being illogical. The reason why I say this is because, for example, when there was a bill before the Assembly or the Senate in Harrisburg that would raise the price supports on milk, something which would benefit these same farmers, that bill was usually voted down by Republican legislators. In other words, farmers voted for the very people who were causing them to barely get by and stay some of the poorest people in Pennsylvania. By voting Republican, they were hurting themselves but refused to recognize that even when you pointed it out to them.

The people in this video are the type of people who remind me of lemmings, the little animals that occasionally throw themselves en mass off of the cliffs of Siberia into the cold ocean to die. They just follow each other mindlessly and without question. After watching this video, I just had this picture in my mind about these people following each other over a cliff. That’s voter stupidity in a nutshell.

The optimist in me wants to believe that these people are anomalies and not an accurate representation of the average American citizen. However, after what happened on November 8, 2016, I wonder if my optimism is justified. I hope so!

The Alt-Right: Who Are They?

On the political scene, there seems to be what is conceived as a “new group” that has arisen to take part in the political process in the United States.

The Alt-Right: Who Are They?

altright On the political scene, there seems to be a “new group” that has arisen to take part in the political process in the United States. They are the Alternative Right, also known as the “Alt-Right.” In actuality, these people have been around for a long time, although they preferred to be mostly unseen.

Members of the Alt-Right movement believe that the conservative movement in this country doesn’t go far enough to maintain “traditional values,” or to further the conservative agenda in the most efficient way. Many members of the normal conservative movement in the United States are afraid of members of the Alt-Right. They not only think that this movement is far too radical in its position, but discredits the entire conservative movement because many members of the Alt-Right movement believe that it’s okay to further its agenda by any means necessary. Often, these means include violence against those who disagree with their position, including other members of the conservative movement. They are often viewed as “loose cannons” to regular conservatives.

the-alt-right-is-not-racistThe Alt-Right espouses a belief system that is considered to be offensive by most people, mostly because of its nature. The Alt-Right is made up of white supremacists, or as they now seem to prefer to be known as “white nationalist.” This term is three just another buzzword for racist.  The ranks include such groups as, The Aryan Nation, the Ku Klux Klan, and skinheads.

Formerly, the Alt-Right preferred to remain in the shadows because of their activities, and that they were cowards about bringing their offensive belief system out into the public eye. Also, even within this movement, they were never confident about their numbers. Often, members of a movement of this type only feel empowered when they know that there are others who will defend their belief system. The only feels strength in numbers because they are too cowardly to stand alone.

However, with the election of Donald Trump, the members of the Alt-Right hand seemingly come out of the woodwork, mostly because a primary candidate has used their brand of hate speech in a presidential election. These members of the Alt-Right, or as I prefer to call them, bigots have felt free to come out and preach their hateful doctrine of racism because of a major political candidate, Donald Trump has encapsulated in his rhetoric something that they relate to; racism, sexism, Islamaphobia, Xenophobia, and anti-Semitism. These bigoted positions were mainstays of the entire Trump campaign.

Steve BannonEven though he doesn’t acknowledge it, Donald Trump has given these people a type of power they haven’t had in recent years. Not only does he refuse to acknowledge that he has given them free license to come out into the open, but he refuses to distance himself from them. He has even brought a prominent member of the Alt-Right into his cabinet as his chief of staff, the former editor of Breitbart, Steve Bannon.

Breitbart News seems to be the primary outlet for members of the Alt-Right to express themselves and spread their message of hatred and racism. This message is the main reason that the appointment of Steve Bannon to a position where he will have the ear of the president is controversial but dangerous. The Alt-Right also has a propensity for using the Internet for spreading its ugly word, particularly through the use of trolling and spreading hateful “memes.”

President-elect Donald Trump, if he is half as smart as he thinks, will put as much distance between himself and the Alt-Right as he can. So far, he hasn’t done that or even indicated that he has any intention of doing so.

Trump Appoints White Nationalist Steve Bannon

steve-bannonPresident-elect Donald Trump has appointed Steve Bannon to an advisory level cabinet post in his new administration, even though Bannon is a well-known White Nationalist. In case you may not know, the term “white nationalist” is a code word for a white supremacist. As you can imagine, the appointment of Steve Bannon to such a high-level position is highly controversial, even among diehard Trump supporters.

Even though Bannon denies having ties to the white national movement, there is ample evidence that he is a sympathizer to their cause. Both the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) and the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) have called on President-elect Trump to rescind his appointment. The  SPLC issued an adamant statement against his appointment.

Steve Bannon comes to the White House from Breitbart News, which should say about who he is. If you have ever read Breitbart, you will quickly recognize that it’s nothing more than a right-wing cesspool of ultra-conservative propaganda. In fact, Breitbart News makes Fox News almost look liberal.

On the one hand, the people running the Trump transition say that they are going to distance themselves from some of the volatile rhetoric that took place during the campaign nationalist and an anti-Semite like Steve Bannon into a position where he will always have the President’s ear.

Donald Trump’s transition team is trying very hard to mend fences and undo some of the damage done by his ugly rhetoric.  The appointment of a known White Nationalist (a.k.a. white supremacist) like Steve Bannon only makes their job harder than it is already.  People in the Republican Party who were not supportive of his campaign, are now kissing his ass in a lame attempt to ingratiate themselves to him.  What a disgusting scene!

Will the hypocrisy of Donald Trump ever stop?

Splitting the Republican Party: A Sensible Idea

Dividing the Republican Party in half makes a lot of sense, especially when you consider the fact that presidential hopeful Donald Trump is already crying foul, and claiming that if he loses, it is because the election is rigged.

Steve Schmidt, a highly regarded Republican political operative has raised the interesting question of whether the Republican Party will split in half. One half of the remaining Republican Party would be a hard core, far right party, and the other half would be a center right party. Donald Trump could very well attempt to continue […]

Splitting the Republican Party: A Sensible Idea

The Republican PartyDividing the Republican Party in half makes a lot of sense, especially when you consider the fact that presidential hopeful Donald Trump is already crying foul, and claiming that if he loses, it is because the election is rigged. Expecting him to lose gracefully and bow out with some class, something that he doesn’t have is asking a lot.

From a political standpoint, it makes a lot of sense to divide the Republican Party into a half. Half the “crazies” going one way, and the moderate and sensible Republicans (considering there are any) going the other way. Dividing the Republican Party into two parts makes a lot of sense from a political standpoint. It would be the politically expedient thing to do if they have any hope of surviving the upcoming debacle.

If the Republican Party doesn’t wake up and smell the coffee, it may be too late to save itself. Either that, or publicly admit that they made a huge mistake supporting Trump, and divorced themselves from him and his “followers.”  If the Republican Party put some distance between themselves and Trump, they would look better in the public eye, especially considering that some of the top racist groups in this country are among his supporters.

The Republican Party cannot think that it can lie down with a pig, and come out smelling like roses. They should be smart enough to realize that fact. They would also look better in the public eye admit that they made a mistake, apologize for it, and attempt to move on.

As it stands, they are in a lot of danger of losing control of both the House and Senate; something that I am closely hoping for, primarily because they have grossly abused power all the way through the eight years of President Obama. If they keep control of both houses of Congress, I can easily see them obstructing Hillary Clinton the same way they did Barack Obama.
