Dakota Access Pipeline: Two More Leaks Happen

Once again, The Dakota Access Pipeline has sprung a leak.  This time, it leaked out about 100 gallons of crude oil.  It also leaked  85 gallons in March. It is past time that the federal government, probably the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) stepped in and intervene in the situation and hopefully, shut it down until the entire environmental impact has been investigated thoroughly and without corporate interference.  Unfortunately, that last part is highly unlikely.

Considering that the company that built the pipeline, Energy Transfer Partners (ETP) has not only invested billions of dollars in this project, and that president Donald Trump and the rest of the federal government has rubber stamped this project from the beginning, makes this highly unlikely.  This, coupled with the EPA has undergone massive budget cuts which have rendered it basically useless, is another fact to consider.  Unfortunately, after the Dakota Access Pipeline has such a large oil spill that it causes a major environmental disaster that this project will be fully explored and reconsidered.

Both common sense and practical consideration to make it a no-brainer that the Dakota Access Pipeline should never have been built, in the first place.  It is just another corporate venture that puts profit before people or the well-being of our environment.  It is another example of how money talks and bullshit walks.

It is also another example that clearly points out that common people, who protest against something that they know to be wrong should not be ignored, nor how the power of protest often carries great weight, even when it is ignored. If the protesters against the Dakota Access Pipeline would have been listened to, we could all be spared, this ticking time bomb waiting to destroy the environment of this region.

Why Isn’t Scott Pruitt Fighting EPA Budget Cuts?

One question that has crossed my mind is, “why isn’t Scott Pruitt fighting the federal budget cuts to the EPA?”  It would seem natural that the director of any agency would be fighting to save his agency from massive federal budget cuts.  After all, I always thought that one of the major functions of any director worth his salt is to protect his agency from these types of things.  Why is Scott Pruitt any different?

I pretty much have the answer to my question already in mind.  The reason why Donald Trump’s EPA pick, Scott Pruitt, isn’t fighting against these massive federal budget cuts proposed by President Donald Trump is that he is just one of Trump’s “boys.”  In other words, Scott Pruitt is just playing ball, just the way Trump wants him.  In my mind, this is just more evidence that Donald Trump intends to abolish the EPA, and Scott Pruitt is working in collusion with his boss.

Scott Pruitt is just another one of Donald Trump’s saboteurs.  In a previous article I wrote, I told about the idea that many people have that Trump’s appointees to various cabinet positions were planted there for a particular reason. Scott Pruitt’s lack of even a token defense of his agency from these federal budget cuts, makes one wonder if he cares about the EPA at all.

It is a common belief of many of Donald Trump’s appointees to cabinet level positions have been put there to sabotage the respective agencies so that the president will say they are a waste of time and money, and should be eliminated. What other excuse is there for an agency head to be so neglectful as failed to defend that body against federal budget cuts.  Scott Pruitt doesn’t even try to put on an act of caring about the well-being of the EPA.

The EPA, because of this regulatory power to control the pollution created by large companies is a direct threat to everything people like Donald Trump stand for: making a profit, no matter who is hurt.  In this respect, Scott Pruitt is just another corporate shill who is unwilling to rock the boat of bank capital.  Even though he is the director of the EPA, he has shown no willingness even to attempt to fight the federal budget cuts to his agency.  To the contrary, he perceives his job as being a contributor to its demise, as Donald Trump intends him to be.

Donald Trump’s Budget Will Cause Great Harm

Donald Trump’s Budget Will Cause Great Harm

This video by Dr. Robert Reich explains very clearly why Donald Trump’s budget is harmful and a threat to many Americans. This budget is unrealistic to the point of being scary. In fact, it is so scary that it reflects the personality of Donald Trump himself.

One thing this budget will do is to create even more of a bloated military that we have already. Military spending is at an all-time high, so why do we need a larger military force that we already have? This feature of the budget is reflective of Donald Trump’s paranoia and fear of other countries. He is putting the United States in a very dangerous position by adopting this hostile stance. Donald Trump’s budget sends the wrong message to a potential adversary; this country may have.

Donald Trump’s budget will pay for this exceedingly large military expenditure by cutting vital programs that we can better benefit from them by having a larger military force. The United States only has a finite amount of money to spend, so it is very obvious that to fund a more significant military means cutting money in other areas.

For example, Donald Trump’s budget calls for a massive reduction in funding for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), one of the most important federal agencies in existence today. The EPA is responsible for safeguarding this country’s air, water, and food supply from being harmful to consumers. The EPA also performs a very valuable regulatory process to control how and if a big industry is allowed to pollute our environment, and to what extent.  It is an indicator that he doesn’t consider this function necessary. It just shows his corporate mentality that all regulations that might curtail profits are evil, and need to be limited or abolished.

Donald Trump’s budget will also cause the average American worker an even more unfair tax burden than they already have. It does nothing to force wealthier people to pay more of their fair share of taxes. Of course, coming from a rich man like Donald Trump, I guess you can’t expect him to hurt his kind. That’s one thing that makes Donald Trump’s budget even more unrealistic and harmful for the United States.

Scott Pruitt Shows Himself To Be Even More of a Hypocrite

Scott Pruitt, the new director of the EPA, shows himself to be even more of a hypocrite at the CPAC convention.

He seems to be very pleased, even though the EPA is targeted for a 25% budget cut. Even though this speech was given more than a week before Donald Trump came out with this new budget, I would dare say that Scott Pruitt was well aware of these budget cuts at the time of his speech.

It is no secret that Scott Pruitt has long been an opponent of the EPA and its mission for quite a while. In fact, he has sued this agency four times while he was Attorney General of the state of Oklahoma. These lawsuits were against the EPA for trying to regulate the harmful practice of fracking; something which is commonplace in Oklahoma because of the significant amount of natural gas and oil that found there. He takes this position despite the fact that fracking causes an increased number of earthquakes, which have occurred in Oklahoma over the last several years.

It seems very ironic that Scott Pruitt gives a speech in which he says that his agency, the EPA, will no longer impose its environmental regulations on states that oppose them. In other words, Scott Pruitt is giving the green light to businesses to do whatever they want, no matter how harmful it may be to the environment.

It strikes me as the ultimate in hypocrisy for Scott Pruitt, the newly chosen director of the EPA to promise that his agency will not perform the job that it was designed for when it was created in the 70s. It is even more ironic that the EPA was formed during the time of Richard Nixon, a Republican.

EPA Budget Cuts: Trump’s Back Door Way to Destroy This Agency

In his first budget as POTUS, Donald Trump proposes massive budget cuts to EPA.

EPA Budget Cuts: Trump’s Back Door Way to Destroy This Agency

Many people, including myself, think that Donald Trump’s goal is to abolish the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency).  He is no different from any other member of the business community because most of them also want to eliminate the EPA.  His recent EPA budget cuts are evidence that the president’s eventual goal is to destroy this important government agency.

His proposed cuts will force the agency to cut some EPA jobs.  What better way to kill an organization than to dry up its funding sources?  The latest EPA budget cuts will force the agency to abandon many of its critical programs that protect us from unsafe air and water and other environmental dangers that we face.  Even though Donald Trump said in the election that one of his primary goals was to protect the American people, his actions of cutting the budget to the EPA shows that he is nothing but a liar.

Many people who are rather naïve might ask, “why abolish the EPA?”  After all, if his agency performs such a vital service, why would anyone want to abolish it? The answer is quite simple; because it’s a regulatory agency that gets in the way of the corporate “bottom line.”

People need to understand that Donald Trump is a laissez-faire capitalist who cares nothing about the well-being of the American people.  He is just another businessman whose primary goal is to make money by any means possible.  If abolishing a regulatory agency that interferes with profit is what needs to be done to make sure that big Capital continues to make money, then so be it.

Others might ask, “can the president abolish the EPA?”  The answer to that question is a bit more complicated, but the answer is no, he cannot do it on his own.  Legally, I think it would probably take an act of Congress to abolish the EPA.  However, by defunding an agency to the point where it ceases to work properly is just as good as destroying it.

Donald Trump knows this fact.  His cutting of EPA funding through massive budget cuts will make the agency ineffective and unable to act, therefore, effectively putting it out-of-the-way of big business.  These cuts are Donald Trump’s back door way of destroying the Environmental Protection Agency.

If his latest EPA budget cuts are not evidence of his eventual goal, I don’t know what is.  We must never forget, there is a method to Donald Trump’s madness.

Donald Trump Nominees Are Saboteurs

Donald Trump Nominees Are Saboteurs

Some people can’t seem to figure out why Donald Trump nominees for four key cabinet posts here to be so unsuited for the job. Some people think that he is crazy for appointing some of the people he has selected.  Donald Trump is crazy like a fox.  There is a distinct method to his madness; something we should never forget.

Donald Trump made these nominations for a reason; to sabotage and to destroy the various departments to which they were to administer.  All of the major agencies, with the most controversial of Donald Trump nominees, are branches of government that most conservatives are opposed. The Department Of Education, The Department of Labor, The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and The Department of Health and Human Services are all branches of our government that were designed to protect us. They were intended to protect us from poor educational standards, unsafe working conditions and fair pay, clean air, and clean water, and good quality healthcare and housing discrimination.

They are also the branches of government that produce the most regulation; something that big business has always opposed.  After all, isn’t Donald Trump one of the people who has played the loudest about deregulation and government overreach?  What better way to for Donald Trump to destroy the agencies that he hates the most than to appoint people who are as opposed to these bodies as he is?

Isn’t it logical that Donald Trump nominees for these offices are the type of people that we can trust the least?  This theory appears to be true, especially since these several Donald Trump nominees are people who have a record of being opposed to the very regulations that they are sworn to enforce. For example, Scott Pruitt, Trump’s nominee for head of the EPA has a record of not only of opposing the EPA in his home state of Oklahoma but has sued the agency four times.  Is he someone we can trust to make sure that we have clean air and water?

Scott Pruitt Has Flip-Flopped About Climate Change

Scott Pruitt, President Donald Trump’s nominee for administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), has flip-flopped about the issue of climate change. He has clearly demonstrated over the years and throughout his confirmation hearing that he is not the person who should be the head of the EPA.

Scott Pruitt is allegedly closely tied to the oil and gas industry. In 2014, Scott Pruitt was caught in a secret alliance with members of the oil and gas industry in trying to tear down air pollution standards, even to the point of helping them file lawsuits against federal regulators. Scott Pruitt himself has personally filed a lawsuit against the Environmental Protection Agency to undermine President Obama’s Clean Power Plan. How can the citizens of the United States entrust the protection of our environment to someone who has sued the agency responsible for protecting it? The answer is, they cannot.

Scott Pruitt has even defended the practice of fracking, the extremely dangerous practice used by the oil and gas industry to extract oil and gas from the earth, despite that this method has been shown to increase the number of greenhouse gasses released into the environment. Greenhouse gasses are the reason behind global warming and climate change.

Scott Pruitt seems to have changed his tune about climate change during his confirmation hearing.  During his hearing, Scott Pruitt now admits that climate change is real, but refused to acknowledge that human activity causes it, to which Senator Bernie Sanders called him out and tried to get him to answer the question about what causes global warming. Scott Pruitt then tried to engage Senator Sanders in an argument about to what degree human activity has on climate change, even though 97% of the scientific community agrees that human activity causes climate change. All he did was make himself look stupid and less qualified to be the administrator of the EPA.

In Scott Pruitt’s 2013 reelection campaign for Attorney General of Oklahoma, his campaign manager just happened to be a man named Harold Hamm, who happened to be the CEO of one of the largest fracking companies in Oklahoma. Recently, Mr. Hamm became one of the biggest proponents of the Dakota Access Pipeline because his business will be doing most of the fracking in North Dakota. If this is the type of person that Scott Pruitt chooses to be his campaign manager, is he as big of a believer in climate change as he says? I doubt it!
