Let’s Talk about Impeachment Already!

Finally, Congress is talking about beginning impeachment proceedings against Donald Trump.  Some of the people talking about this include Republicans.

In some weird way, I almost feel sorry for the Republicans, but I soon realized that they are responsible for their own undoing.  They should have brought this idiot under some type of control before talk about impeachment proceedings were necessary.  When Donald Trump was a candidate, the GOP chose to look the other way when he was being a racist jackass and attacking everything (and everybody) insight.  But, they refused to control this loudmouth until somebody started talking about impeachment.  Now they are scrambling to distance themselves from “their” president like rats, leaving a sinking ship.  They deserve everything they get.  They did the same thing back during the Watergate scandal.

The Republicans deserve everything they get.  They did the same thing back during the Watergate scandal.  Back then, they chose to allow Richard Nixon to do whatever he wanted until the damage was done, and he was nearly impeached.  I guess it’s true that some people never learn.  A Republican president came close to facing impeachment was before, and the Republican Party chose, to their regret, bury their heads in the sand like frightened ostriches.

By blindly following Donald Trump, no matter how toxic they may have secretly thought his rhetoric was, borders on the definition of insanity.  They say that insanity is doing the same thing repeatedly, hoping for a different result.  Is the Republican Party insane?  One wonders!

History is repeating itself.  Once again, a Republican president is facing impeachment, and the Republicans are dumb enough to believe that the American people will forget about it and re-elect some of these dumb asses next year, during the midterm elections.  Good luck with that!

Bernie Sanders Not Allowing Himself to Be Distracted by “Constitutional Crisis”

Bernie Sanders Not Allowing Himself to Be Distracted by “Constitutional Crisis”

The current scandal about the connection between the Donald Trump campaign and the Russians is not distracting Senator Bernie Sanders from looking out for the working class.  While this entire mess is going on, Senator Bernie Sanders has introduced to pieces of legislation that would help the working class more than any other legislation in recent years. Both of these pieces of legislation could make it possible for workers to take ownership over the means of production, which is always a classic socialist strategy for improving working conditions and bringing about equality between workers and bosses.

Now is the perfect time for legislation to come along to improve conditions for the average American worker, especially since our nation is consumed by the current “dog and pony show” of Donald Trump and his minions.  While our entire country is being distracted by the current Trump/Russia scandal, Bernie Sanders has retained the proper focus; advocating for the working class.  While most people are distracted and disoriented by this current mess, he chooses to take action to help his country. I’m hopeful that we will survive what pundits are currently calling a “constitutional crisis” because I have lived through Watergate, which was also labeled a “constitutional crisis”.  I, just like it did back then, have enough faith that the safeguards put into our system will prevail and take Donald Trump out of power, just like the safeguards put Richard Nixon out of the White House.  Even though it may take a while, Donald Trump will likewise be dealt with in the same way as Richard Nixon.

These two pieces of legislation, introduced by Bernie Sanders are the WORK (Worker Ownership, Readiness and Knowledge Act) and the US Employee Ownership Bank.  Bernie Sanders believes that both of these pieces of legislation will level the playing field, and make it possible for workers to have more control over the businesses that they work in.  He also believes that these bills will help to prepare American workers to compete with foreign companies, by improving the skills and training of American workers and encouraging these workers to educate themselves to be better able to compete.

This lack of competition has hamstrung American industry for years.  It has gotten to the point where a middle-class worker cannot further education because the cost of education has risen to the point where it has put further training out of reach of the average worker.  This causes many workers to be stuck in “dead-end” jobs where they stand little chance for advancement in their careers.  The WORK Act would go far in helping to relieve this situation.  It provides $45 million in funding to be used to enhance training for workers who wish to advance.

The second piece of legislation put forth by Bernie Sanders, The US Employee Ownership Bank would make available $500 million in low-interest loans that would make it possible for workers to buy out the businesses they work in.  Allowing workers to own the “means of production” is an old socialist principle that I would expect no wonder American politician other than Bernie Sanders to embrace, or even have knowledge about.  In the United States, our people are not taught about socialist principles, and no matter how good they may be, simply because they are socialist.  Americans are taught to fear socialism and to think that it’s bad.  Thankfully, Bernie Sanders is not one of those brainwashed people, like most of his fellow Americans.

We Need a Special Prosecutor for Trump

Even some Republicans want an independent investigation.

Source: More Than 100 Lawmakers Respond to Comey Firing by Calling for Independent Russia Probe | Mother Jones

We Need a Special Prosecutor for Trump

The firing of FBI Director James Comey makes it glaringly apparent that a special prosecutor is needed to investigate possible ties between the Trump administration and the Russians.  There is no way that the Donald Trump, or his administration can be trusted being allowed anywhere near this fiasco. Of course, fiasco may be the wrong word.  A better word might be salvation.  I guess it depends on where you sit, and whose side you are on.

What I interpret to be a hopeful sign that a special prosecutor may be appointed is the fact that a few Republicans are in favor of a special prosecutor, and are calling for the appointment of one.  Looking at it for a cynic like me, I wonder who will be the right people to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate this matter.  This entire process must be kept as clean as possible. In fact, it has to be squeaky clean or the results won’t be believable or interpreted as being truthful.

It is a hopeful sign when a senator of John McCain’s prestige, is one of the Republicans calling for the appointment of a special prosecutor.  Even though I must confess that John McCain isn’t one of my favorite people, his appearance on the scene does lend some credibility to the process, at least in some circles.  He knows that a special prosecutor is the only fair way to get to the bottom of this matter, without any tampering from either side, Democrats, Republicans or any others who may have some type of special interest on the outcome of any investigation.  That way, after a special prosecutor finishes his/her investigation, nobody can accuse anyone else of rigging the outcome for political gain.

Donald Trump, in his own “tweets” to the public, is very close to crossing the line over into obstruction of justice, a criminal charge for which he is skirting, if not trampling over.  He and his entire administration have tried to derail Comey’s investigation from the start.  I guess the straw that finally broke “the Donald’s” back is when Comey started asking for more funding and investigators to help with the investigation.  At that point, Donald Trump may as well have shouted out, “I’m as guilty as hell”.  He obviously has never learned or developed a poker face.  Of course, he’s too arrogant to think he needs one.

It has become very obvious to many people Donald Trump doesn’t really know much about civics, government and most of all, history, or else he would know that he is playing straight out of “The Richard Nixon Playbook” in the way that he is dealing with this situation.

He must not remember or was too busy making money and being a sexist to remember that after Richard Nixon fired independent special prosecutor Archibald Cox, his ship started sinking increasingly faster. Hopefully, Donald Trump’s ship will soon sink like a rock.

A Small Part of the Legacy of President Obama

A Small Part of the Legacy of President Obama

president obamaPresident Obama was celebrated by the left because he was able to bail us out of the horrible financial situation that GW Bush left us in. President Obama was able to bring about one of the biggest economic recoveries in this country’s history. His reforms on Wall Street and the entire banking system could have been revolutionary if they had ever been carried out properly. Unfortunately, they were not because the right kept spreading lies about how his proposed reforms would wreck our economy, despite the fact that he pulled the automobile industry out of a financial disaster by loaning them federal money in what amounted to a bailout. This bailout of the automobile industry saved it from self-destruction and guaranteed it would survive. It, in itself, is proof that President Obama was responsible for a very large economic recovery. He was willing to take a gamble that federal loans to the automobile industry would eventually pay off, which they did. The automobile industry paid back these loans within a couple of years. When have Wall Street bankers ever been able to say the same thing?

Also, he was able to lower the unemployment rate much compared to his predecessor who only helped create the situation of high unemployment. Under President Obama, people started finding more jobs and working more. Granted, many of these jobs were substandard ones that paid substandard wages, but nonetheless, they were still jobs. Perhaps if the big businessmen that run this country would not have shipped all the good jobs overseas, things would have been different. However, President Obama was not responsible for this shipment of jobs overseas.

Another thing that President Obama is responsible for is extricating us from a costly and unjust war in Iraq. This war was not only costly in the amount of money that was spent on it, but more importantly, the cost in human lives. Over 4000 American GIs were killed in this ugly atrocity, created by President George W. Bush. An estimated 300,000 to 400,000 Iraqis were killed in this horrible war. For what reason were all these people killed?

The answer is, absolutely nothing. Present GW Bush accomplished absolutely nothing with his war on Iraq, but to create the current level of instability in the entire Middle East. This entire region remains unstable to this very day. There is very little that President Obama could do about the situation other than to do as much as he could to insulate the United States from it and protect this country from the terrorists created by it. Expecting him to solve it, would be asking a miracle.

The unfortunate thing is that President Obama continued the violence with his drone stop strikes on supposed “terrorists”, even though there was often times very little if any, evidence that these people on the ground were actually terrorists.  He is also responsible for starting up many “secret bases” from which our military work.  President Obama is somewhat guilty of maintaining the quest for an “American Empire”.Will this country never stop his quest for “Manifest Destiny”?  This type of mentality should have disappeared along with Theodore Roosevelt, but unfortunately, President Obama was guilty of playing into it.

Most of us on the left consider Obama to be mostly moderate and considered him to be a liberal only on occasion. However, we still celebrate the fact that a person of color can advance themselves to a position where they are able to hold the highest office in the land. Most of us on the left celebrate the fact that Obama symbolizes that white people of European descent no longer have a stranglehold on who controls this country. Obama’s symbolizes an end to the Eurocentrism that has always dominated the United States. There is nothing that scares wealthy old white man of European descent more than the thought that a person of color could actually be legitimately put in a position of power. Power is something that these people of Eurocentric values wish for more than anything, just as long as it remains in their hands.

Our current president or as many of us like to call him “the great pretender”, Donald Trump is a perfect example of this racist Eurocentric mentality.

Donald Trump Thinks Andrew Jackson, “Had a Big Heart”

Donald Trump Thinks Andrew Jackson, “Had a Big Heart”

In a recent interview, Donald Trump claims that the American Civil War might not have happened if Andrew Jackson had been alive. He is also important during the interview as saying that “Andrew Jackson had a big heart.” I wonder if any members of the five tribes who were forced to march to Oklahoma on the “Trail of Tears” would have agreed?

The “Trail of Tears” refers to the collective suffering of five tribes of Native Americans that were forcibly removed from their land in the southern United States. These tribes were the Cherokee, Creek, Choctaw, Chickasaw and Seminole. They were removed by an act of Congress, called the “American Indian Removal Act of 1830”, which President Andrew Jackson wholeheartedly supported. Of course, what type of compassion can one expect from a president who was also a slave owner?

Even though these Indians owned the land that they were removed from, these people were treated like animals during their removal from the South. Nearly 150,000 Native Americans were forcibly removed from their land, and nearly 15,000 of them died on the way to “Indian Territory”, also now known as Oklahoma.

Andrew Jackson ordered that these people be removed in January 1838. Of course, having such a “big heart” says Donald Trump, he orders them to be moved in the middle of winter instead of waiting for warmer weather when more of them would have probably survived the move. What a “big heart” Andrew Jackson had!

Andrew Jackson had as much compassion for the Indians as Donald Trump has for refugees from places like Syria and the Sudan. No wonder that someone like Donald Trump would choose Andrew Jackson as their hero.

The First 100 Days of Donald Trump

The first 100 days of Donald Trump

On day 100 of Donald Trump’s presidency find a serious situation where we are far from being great. Of course, I like to think that the United States is already great. Even though I may oftentimes be a cynic, I prefer not to take the same dim view of the United States that Donald Trump apparently has.

In his first 100 days in office, Donald Trump has managed to polarize more people into warring camps, instead of a unified country, than any other president in history. No one has managed to drive a wedge between so many Americans as Donald Trump.

Donald Trump, in his first hundred days, has also succeeded in bringing this entire country to the brink of war quicker than any other president in history. He has already staged an unauthorized missile attack against a country that we are not at war with and dropped a huge bomb on another country. Donald from is also putting us in a more dangerous situation with a lunatic in North Korea, than any other American president. He has falsely allowed propaganda to go out that a major fleet was headed for North Korea when in reality, they were headed for Australia.

In his first hundred days as president of the United States, Donald Trump has succeeded in killing any confidence in the future that anyone in this country may have had. Our country is more pessimistic than ever because of Donald Trump’s attitude and demeanor.

Donald Trump has also succeeded in giving the “green light” to every racist, homophobic, and xenophobe in this country to not only spew forth with their ugly venom but has actually encouraged them into action with his own ugly rhetoric and vitriol.

An Uncomfortable Truth about Donald Trump

Given the state of the Republican presidential race, it’s time to acknowledge a very uncomfortable truth: Donald Trump is probably going to be the Republican nominee. The question for Democrats is simple. Who has the best chance to defeat Trump? And by any objective measure, the answer is Bernie Sanders. In …

Even This Conservative Concedes That Single-Payer Health Care is Coming

Source: George Will predicts Obamacare to become single-payer because of this inconvenient fact

Even This Conservative Concedes That Single-Payer Health Care Is Coming

Single-payer health care Conservative columnist, George Will, concedes that single-payer health care is going to happen, probably even under Donald Trump.  He says it will happen, despite the current state of denial of Trump and his followers, mostly because of an inconvenient truth that no one in the GOP seems willing to concede.

This inconvenient truth is the fact that if the GOP succeeds in repealing The Affordable Health Care Act (a.k.a. Obamacare), it will probably hurt Trump supporters the most.  If the Republicans new health care plan is implemented, an estimated 24 million Americans will be left without any type of health care coverage.  This fact is showing itself to be extremely unpopular and unacceptable to most supporters of President Donald Trump, and others in the GOP who are pushing for the repeal of Obamacare.

Single-payer health care is the next logical step in the evolution of health care in the United States.  The primary people who oppose it are those people who don’t understand it, or how it works.  Obamacare, according to George Will, was intended to be just a preliminary step before implementing a single-payer system.  Even Donald Trump says that a single-payer system is okay for Scotland.  If so, why wouldn’t it work here?  The answer is, it would work here, and quite well.Single-payer health care

The primary reason that George Will says whatever plan the GOP is trying to push will fail, and a single-payer system will put into effect is because the Republican health care plan (whatever that is) will hurt people who voted for Donald Trump more than it will anyone else.

Even though I really dislike George Will, and almost everything he stands for, I will freely concede that he makes a lot of sense, as does a single-payer health care system.
