The Dakota Access Pipeline: Another Case of Environmental Racism

There is another reason the Dakota Access Pipeline is going through the Standing Rock Reservation instead of going through another more densely populated area.  That reason is something called environmental racism.  It is very clear to me that if the Dakota Access Pipeline were going through a densely populated area occupied mostly by whites, there would be much more an outcry and there is already.

The Dakota Access Pipeline has received a significant amount of media coverage, although most of the best coverage has come from progressive or left-wing media via the Internet, instead of the mainstream media on TV or radio.  As usual, most of the coverage on mainstream media has lacked in the human interest aspect of this entire story and how this pipeline will significantly affect Native Americans.  Of course, ignoring key issues of Native Americans or any other people of power is the usual modus operandi of mainstream media.  It’s unfortunate that the first Americans are slighted this way.

They earned some credit for covering the Dakota Access Pipeline, although that coverage has been very useful for the pipeline.  They have failed to explain why the Dakota Access Pipeline is of such tremendous significance to the people who live there at Standing Rock.  They have also failed to deal with the issue of environmental racism, which I feel is the primary reason the Dakota Access Pipeline receives such lackluster coverage.

The issue of environmental racism is a subject that the mainstream media has always been uncomfortable with, much like every other type of racism.  It has gotten to the point where any talk of about racism of any kind is something mainstream media seems to avoid at any given turn.

I dare say if the Dakota Access Pipeline was going through Bismarck, North Dakota, as was originally intended, this entire story would be covered in a different way.

Fascist Tactics Used Against Senator Elizabeth Warren on Senate Floor

Fascist Tactics Used Against Senator Elizabeth Warren on Senate Floor

Yesterday, Senator Elizabeth Warren was prevented from speaking in master opposition to the appointment of Senator Jeff Sessions to be Attorney General. It looks as though the fascism that has taken over 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. has spread down the street to the U.S. Congress.

When she tried to read the text of a letter written by Coretta Scott King, in her opposition to Jeff Sessions for appointment to a Federal Judgeship, Senator Elizabeth Warren was forced to stop her speech by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. McConnell chose to use an old rule to prevent Senator Warren from speaking.

The old rule, known as “Rule 9”, which says that “one Senator cannot impugn the reputation of another member of the Senate” was pulled out of McConnell’s bag of tricks in his, unfortunately, successful attempt to silence Senator Elizabeth Warren.

After she then objected to the old rule being used to stop her from speaking, Senator Elizabeth Warren appealed to the presiding officer for a ruling. Unfortunately, he upheld Mitch McConnell’s fascism and Senator Warren was forced to step away from the podium.

As far as impugning Jeff Sessions reputation, that is something that is very easy to do. He has no reputation, except that of a racist who does not deserve to be allowed to have a seat in such a high place as Attorney General. His record of racist behavior goes way back many years. He is unfit to serve as this country’s Attorney General because he will not be able to be fair because of his racist past, which is well-documented.

Using an old rule to silence Senator Elizabeth Warren was wrong. Mitch McConnell shows himself to be a total hypocrite and using it to silence her. After all, we were forced to watch him treat President Obama with a total lack of respect for eight years. For him to prevent Senator Elizabeth Warren from reading the text of a letter written by the window of a Great American like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., is not only a travesty but a tactic more suited to a fascist.

I have included a link to the text of the letter written by Coretta Scott King, for your convenience.

The Ridiculous Idea That Mexico Will Pay for the Wall

The idea that Mexico will pay for the wall on the Mexican border is one of the most ridiculous ideas that I have heard in quite a while.

The Ridiculous Idea That Mexico Will Pay for the Wall

The idea that Mexico will pay for the wall on the Mexican border is one of the ridiculous ideas that I have heard in quite a while. Donald Trump thinks he can force the Mexican people to pay for a wall along the Mexican border. That just goes to show how delusional the new POTUS is. He claims that this will solve the current immigration problem; something which I question is a real issue.

The reason I ask whether or not immigration is a problem is because of the way this country was created, and the way that we have always been taught that America was the “great melting pot.” The United States is made up of immigrants. Most people in this country had their origins in foreign countries. If it weren’t for immigration, we would not exist as a nation. I don’t look at it any differently for Mexican immigrants. They contribute their fair share of work and accomplishments, just like everyone else who is a member of our society.

Donald Trump seems to think that Mexican immigrants are taking away jobs from American workers. From my viewpoint, this is ridiculous and falsehood. Mexican immigrants are just like immigrants from everywhere else. They just want to come here to have a better life, just like my great-grandfather did when he came here from Denmark.

Mexican immigrants, at least from my viewpoint, seems to be doing the jobs that most American workers think they are “too good” to do. These people are the ones who do the farm labor, janitorial work, housekeeping, and childcare for people who work during the day. These types of menial jobs are not very sought after by most American workers.

Trump is just stirring up more trouble and inflaming whatever racist followers that he panders to. After all, he got elected to office because of the appeal to many people’s sense of racism and fear of Mexican immigrants. During his campaign, Trump angrily called Mexican immigrants killers and rapists. This tirade showed his racist feelings against Mexicans and pandered to the lowest common denominator that many people have racism.

The Mexican border won’t be any more secure with a wall built between the United States and Mexico. Also, the idea that Mexico will pay for a wall along the border with the United States is preposterous. What does Donald Trump think he can do to force them to pay? Is he delusional enough to think that he can just send an invoice to the Mexican government and that would just pay up?

The Alt-Right: Who Are They?

On the political scene, there seems to be what is conceived as a “new group” that has arisen to take part in the political process in the United States.

The Alt-Right: Who Are They?

altright On the political scene, there seems to be a “new group” that has arisen to take part in the political process in the United States. They are the Alternative Right, also known as the “Alt-Right.” In actuality, these people have been around for a long time, although they preferred to be mostly unseen.

Members of the Alt-Right movement believe that the conservative movement in this country doesn’t go far enough to maintain “traditional values,” or to further the conservative agenda in the most efficient way. Many members of the normal conservative movement in the United States are afraid of members of the Alt-Right. They not only think that this movement is far too radical in its position, but discredits the entire conservative movement because many members of the Alt-Right movement believe that it’s okay to further its agenda by any means necessary. Often, these means include violence against those who disagree with their position, including other members of the conservative movement. They are often viewed as “loose cannons” to regular conservatives.

the-alt-right-is-not-racistThe Alt-Right espouses a belief system that is considered to be offensive by most people, mostly because of its nature. The Alt-Right is made up of white supremacists, or as they now seem to prefer to be known as “white nationalist.” This term is three just another buzzword for racist.  The ranks include such groups as, The Aryan Nation, the Ku Klux Klan, and skinheads.

Formerly, the Alt-Right preferred to remain in the shadows because of their activities, and that they were cowards about bringing their offensive belief system out into the public eye. Also, even within this movement, they were never confident about their numbers. Often, members of a movement of this type only feel empowered when they know that there are others who will defend their belief system. The only feels strength in numbers because they are too cowardly to stand alone.

However, with the election of Donald Trump, the members of the Alt-Right hand seemingly come out of the woodwork, mostly because a primary candidate has used their brand of hate speech in a presidential election. These members of the Alt-Right, or as I prefer to call them, bigots have felt free to come out and preach their hateful doctrine of racism because of a major political candidate, Donald Trump has encapsulated in his rhetoric something that they relate to; racism, sexism, Islamaphobia, Xenophobia, and anti-Semitism. These bigoted positions were mainstays of the entire Trump campaign.

Steve BannonEven though he doesn’t acknowledge it, Donald Trump has given these people a type of power they haven’t had in recent years. Not only does he refuse to acknowledge that he has given them free license to come out into the open, but he refuses to distance himself from them. He has even brought a prominent member of the Alt-Right into his cabinet as his chief of staff, the former editor of Breitbart, Steve Bannon.

Breitbart News seems to be the primary outlet for members of the Alt-Right to express themselves and spread their message of hatred and racism. This message is the main reason that the appointment of Steve Bannon to a position where he will have the ear of the president is controversial but dangerous. The Alt-Right also has a propensity for using the Internet for spreading its ugly word, particularly through the use of trolling and spreading hateful “memes.”

President-elect Donald Trump, if he is half as smart as he thinks, will put as much distance between himself and the Alt-Right as he can. So far, he hasn’t done that or even indicated that he has any intention of doing so.

Trump Appoints White Nationalist Steve Bannon

steve-bannonPresident-elect Donald Trump has appointed Steve Bannon to an advisory level cabinet post in his new administration, even though Bannon is a well-known White Nationalist. In case you may not know, the term “white nationalist” is a code word for a white supremacist. As you can imagine, the appointment of Steve Bannon to such a high-level position is highly controversial, even among diehard Trump supporters.

Even though Bannon denies having ties to the white national movement, there is ample evidence that he is a sympathizer to their cause. Both the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) and the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) have called on President-elect Trump to rescind his appointment. The  SPLC issued an adamant statement against his appointment.

Steve Bannon comes to the White House from Breitbart News, which should say about who he is. If you have ever read Breitbart, you will quickly recognize that it’s nothing more than a right-wing cesspool of ultra-conservative propaganda. In fact, Breitbart News makes Fox News almost look liberal.

On the one hand, the people running the Trump transition say that they are going to distance themselves from some of the volatile rhetoric that took place during the campaign nationalist and an anti-Semite like Steve Bannon into a position where he will always have the President’s ear.

Donald Trump’s transition team is trying very hard to mend fences and undo some of the damage done by his ugly rhetoric.  The appointment of a known White Nationalist (a.k.a. white supremacist) like Steve Bannon only makes their job harder than it is already.  People in the Republican Party who were not supportive of his campaign, are now kissing his ass in a lame attempt to ingratiate themselves to him.  What a disgusting scene!

Will the hypocrisy of Donald Trump ever stop?

Donald Trump Is a Believer in Eugenics. Should We Be Surprised?

Donald Trump Is a Believer in Eugenics.  Should we be surprised?

I wish I could say I was surprised when I watched this video of Donald Trump, but I wasn’t. It seems that Donald Trump believes in eugenics. Why am I not surprised? Should anyone be surprised?

Apparently, Donald Trump shares a common belief with Adolf Hitler; the so-called “science” of eugenics. Donald Trump believes that his business prowess if you can call it that, is attributed to the right genes. He also apparently believes that his genes give him a certain sense of entitlement to be President of the United States, even though this video doesn’t say that.

I find it extremely disturbing that a contender for president of the United States holds similar views as one of the worst mass murderers in the history of the world, Adolf Hitler. Eugenics was also used as an excuse to sterilize people with disabilities and others that some societies felt were inferior, and should not have children.  Does Donald Trump also believe that only certain people should be allowed to procreate?

Hopefully, this video, and others like it, will show people Donald Trump is a liar about who he is. I find this to be incredible that Donald Trump has not caught on yet that for every lie he tells, some piece of videotape from his past turns up to expose him as being dishonest to the American people whom he expressed to help him win the highest office in the United States.

For someone who believes that his superior genes give him an edge over other people, Donald Trump is ignorant to think that most of his bullshit can’t be proven to be just that, bullshit. One would think that his “superior genes” would help him to be less forgetful and a more skilled liar.

Donald Trump Supporters Scare Me More Than He Does

If you didn’t think that Donald Trump was scary enough on his own, his supporters are more frightening than he is.  After reading this article in Mother Jones, I realize that Hillary Clinton was correct for describing them as “deplorable.” Most of the Trump supporters are deplorable, especially those who made it into this article.

Hillary Clinton made a mistake by attempting to walk back her statement.  I would have respected her more if she would have stuck by her original statement, perhaps with a small qualification, perhaps to distinguish those few Donald Trump supporters who are terribly misguided, disaffected, or merely angry at the system.

In many ways, it is true, especially when applied to the collection of lowlife and racist assholes listed in this article.  Most of these groups who identify themselves as Donald Trump supporters include everything from the KKK, The Aryan Nation, and other groups so have come to identify themselves as “white nationalists,” which has become a code word for a white supremacist.  In fact, many of these groups and people are on the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) watchlist for hate groups.  Most of these groups and people should be considered as no less that domestic terrorists.  These groups and people have used violence in the past and are very likely to use it again.  Hopefully, the FBI are also watching them closely.

These people like to hide their identity much in the same way a Klansman hides under a white robe and hood.  What a bunch of cowards, these Donald Trump supporters are!  Donald Trump should be ashamed that his ugly rhetoric attracts people such as these.  But as we all know, Donald Trump is shameless and is space proud of it.

Donald Trump’s candidacy for POTUS has brought a lot of these secret racist hate groups out of the shadows even though they are a fringe element that is in the minority. He has given them a voice and has validated their ugly mentality because Donald Trump has given voice to the same feelings they have. Much of his rhetoric is the same as what they have expressed for years.

Adding to Donald Trump’s lack of credibility is that he has not distanced himself from these people. He is just as much of a loser as his followers. Hopefully, after he is defeated, they will go back into the shadows and disappear just like he should.
