The Left Must Always Oppose White Supremacists and Fascists

White supremacists and fascists must not be allowed to go unchecked by not only the Left but society . These peddlers of hatred and racism must be stopped, by any means necessary. Even though I always embrace the concept of nonviolent resistance, it has gotten to the point where these people are so out of control that the time has come to resist them, even if it means violence.

After all, have they ever been afraid to use the tools of fear and intimidation against others, usually helpless minorities? No, they have not. And neither should we.

On August 12, many white supremacists and fascists I plan on having what they call “Unite The Right” rally in Charlottesville, Virginia. The reason that Charlottesville, VA was chosen for the site of this rally is not to be because the city recently ruled that a statue of Confederate commander Robert E Lee was to be removed from a public park. This apparently set the wheels of racism in motion.

Even though some faith-based organizations have pledged to show resistance, as well as Black Lives Matter, no large-scale counter demonstration has been planned by most members of the Left. To me, this is a colossal mistake. By not responding to these white supremacists, we are conceding the field; something which leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I learned a long time ago that these types of hate groups cannot or should not be ignored.

As an answer to this lack of large-scale response, most leaders of the Left seem to make excuses instead of engaging in a real, meaningful action. They always seem to give the reasons (or better yet, excuse) that their involvement will only draw more attention to these groups and that if you leave them alone, they will go away. This is naïve bullshit!

At some point, the Left needs to realize that even though nonviolence is an excellent practice to use when changing government policies, or protesting some type of government action that is deemed to be unjust when dealing with groups whose entire existence is based on hatred of others, sometimes violence may be necessary and justified.

Don’t get me wrong, because I’m not saying that we should just shoot these people down the streets because that is the furthest thing from my mind. However, showing up in force, possibly ready to do battle if necessary, is probably a good idea even though I grant it would be risky.

The Left, and others, should realize that these people will not just go away. This is particularly true because they have become emboldened by the rhetoric of Donald Trump. They have come to think that because the President of the United States engages in hate speech and even hate action, it’s perfectly okay for them to express themselves, no matter how offensive it may be.

It is a past time the Left, and other people, stop laying down for these people. They are nothing less than an offensive blight on this entire country and should be dealt with effectively. If “effectively” means hurting some of these people, then so be it.
